The 40mm grenade is a military grenade calibre for grenade launchers in service with many armed forces. The 40mm weapon range uses 2 types of cartridges: the 40x46mm Low Velocity (LV) and Medium Velocity (MV).
In the field of medium velocity (MV) the following types of ammunition are available:
Target Practice (TP), High Explosive (HE) and High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP). The medium velocity (MV) offers the same high degree of accuracy as high velocity rounds. With a consistent muzzle velocity of 100m/sec, the MV cartridges can attain a range of up to 800 metres when used in conjunction with the 40mm SuperSix MRGL.
In the field of low velocity (LV) the following types of ammunition are available:
Practice cartridges, impulse/less-than-lethal, sound & flash, and irritant cartridges for peace keeping and peace enforcement. All low velocity cartridges contain a unique propulsion unit with a high-low pressure chamber and a predetermined breakpoint.
